Rape Victims Would Be Imprisoned For Abortion

In New Mexico a new bill was just introduced that would make it a felony offense for a rape victim to carry out an abortion during their sexual assault trials or face charges of "tampering with evidence"

H.B. 206 says that if a woman ends her pregnancy after being raped both she and her doctor would be charged with a felony that is punishable by up to 3 years in state prison.
Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime.
The bill is not expected to pass in the democratic majority controlled house. It was introduced by Republican Representative Cathrynn Brown. Brown commented on the bill stating:
“New Mexico needs to strengthen its laws to deter sex offenders,” said Brown. “By adding this law in New Mexico, we can help to protect women across our state.”
