Jailbreak Coming For iOS 6.1 & iPhone 5

For months users of Apple's iPhone 5 and other devices operating on the iOS 6.0 system have been without a jailbreak. It appears that wait is over.

Unbeknownst to many general users of Apple products there's a website called http://developer.apple.com that enables designers to create and test their apps. Essentially this gives programmers the ability to streamline products before they are released. You didn't think that fancy Facebook app came out without any bugs did you?

On Saturday Apple released their iOS 6.0.5 beta for testers to use, also known as the GrandMaster release.  This signifies the final version before the long awaited iOS 6.1. It's been known for some time now that jailbreakers were able to hack into the 6.0 software but they declined to release the public jailbreak afraid that Apple would see the exploits and patch them before their next operating system. Today it appears that users will be able to jailbreak their phones within the week.

There have been previous jailbreaks on devices running iOS 6.0 but only on pre-A5 devices. In layman's terms: the jailbreak was available only on Apple devices before the iPhone 4S. See, Apple isn't all that thrilled about you jailbreaking your phone. They believe that the iPhone is perfect enough without some third party apps installed. More on what jailbreaking does later.

The single biggest obstacle to a jailbreak thus far has been will the iOS 6.1 software be compatible with the aformentioned iOS 6.0 jailbreak. All evidence from twitter users and iPhone hacker "MuscleNerd" and "planetbeing" indicates that YES it is.

So this brings the question of how long will we have to wait. There's no sure answers yet, but again our twitter sources have hinted at the timeline:

All evidence thus far indicates we could see a Jailbreak on the internet ready for public use by Super Bowl Sunday. In the past it's been released via RedSn0w on www.absinthejailbreak.com . Some important caveats that the designers like to warn you of:

  1. NEVER PAY FOR A JAILBREAK.
    1. Jailbreaks are free, if someone makes you pay for it their trying to trick you into paying htem money for a free service.
We at ACN will keep our eyes posted for when that Jailbreak comes out. In the coming days more on jailbreaking, it's benefits, drawbacks, and instructions will be featured on the blog. Right now our staff is made up of some really intelligent people so if you feel that you're in need of a jailbreak when it comes out contact us and free of charge (donations accepted) we'll help you through it all.
