Call It What You Will: GOP Deficit Focus Is Working

Whether it can be attributed to a spike in government spending or perhaps the seemingly incessant focus by the members of the Republican Party the public's chief concern at home these days is the national deficit. This comes as President Obama enters his second term with a wide range of issues he'd like to focus on.

According to Pew Research, 72 percent of Americans identified reducing the federal budget deficit as a top priority for Obama's second term. Only the economy and jobs were pegged as more important. By contrast in January 2009 only 53% of the country said the same.
