Man Fails to Assassinate opposition Leader in Bulgaria, Caught on Camera

Gun Man Holds a Gas Gun to Ahmet Doğan's Head

Turkish-Bulgarian politician survives assassination attempt

"A Turkish News station posted this about the incident:
19 January 2013 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM, İSTANBUL.

Ahmet Doğan, a Bulgarian politician of Turkish ethnicity and the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (HÖH), survived an assassination attempt on Saturday when an armed man tried to shoot at him during a party congress. An armed assailant approached Doğan as he was speaking during HÖH's 8th Ordinary Congress in Sofia. The man was luckily prevented from shooting at Doğan by the politicians' guards. Doğan was reported to be fine after the incident.
During his speech, Doğan was expected to announce that he was leaving his post and to lend support for HÖH Deputy Chairman Lütfi Mestan.
HÖH is a party whose members are mainly Turks."

A video of the even can be found here.

Warning, there is some violence, after the failed assassination some of Doğan's bodyguards kicked and hit the man. This story is still underway and will be updated as time goes on. There are already cries that this was a hoax in order for Doğan and his party to gain power, but so far there is nothing but speculation.

9:28am: According to News.com.au it was a gas pistol which only fires tear gas. Some people are saying that at this close proximity it can still be lethal.

9:35am: A Reddit user from Bulgaria posted this:

"Please mind that because of the political climate here, this may well be a set up from the political party itself. Elections are coming and the whole thing felt looks pretty weird. Today is the day that this guy is stepping down from the leader position. There's an upcoming referendum about nuclear power.
Shady stuff or not. May be a genuine attempt.
For those saying the issue might be XENOPHOBIA - don't think so. The assassin IS Turkish himself. He has a short criminal record.
Initial reports said he tried to fire 2 times. It was a gas gun.
He also carried 2 knives."

There is definitely a lot going on here and we'll find out what really happened in the next couple of day.

9:50am: The Washington Post is reporting:
"Eventually, the attacker was identified by police as 25-year-old Oktai Enimehmedov, a Bulgarian national and ethnic Turk, from the coastal city of Burgas. He was carrying the gas pistol and two knives. A gas pistol is a non-lethal weapon used for self-defense, but experts say when fired from close range it can cause life-threatening injuries."

2:06pm:
At this point not much more has come to light. My first video was taken down, and now I've updated with a different one from a different angle, but still great footage. It appears that every news station in Bulgaria has only been focusing on this topic and talking to whomever they can about it. If there is anything fishy about this we'll be hearing about it most likely in the coming months. Hopefully it was a freak occurrence and everything is right in the world int terms of Bulgarian politics.
